What does “jive”, when referring to speech, mean? As in, “That just doesn’t jive.”?

I have always thought the term “to jive” meant “to agree with”. Often I have heard it in the negative like “that doesn’t jive”.
I know that it is a form of music. The other definition is that it is slang for nonsense.
Does it have the other meaning of “being the same”?
Or am I confusing it with a different word?
Thanks.
Does anyone know where the word “jibe” originates? I know that one reference relates it to the jib of a ship. How does that relate to “being in agreement with”?
